Welcome to weekend's update Last week the stock market was marked by volatility, a pullback in major indices driven by tech/semiconductor weakness, concerns over AI spending, and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East (U.S - Iran). The current market has not been favorable for the AI/tech investors.  The options expiration caused more volatility, with semiconductors and AI-related names under significant pressure and keep getting slaughtered. The  e scalating between U.S. and Iran tensions pushed oil prices higher $82.49 per barrel.  The big technology companies will start reporting starting this week. There are a few key earning which I will write later. Welcome to my weekend's updates U.S. investors and traders showed continued concern despite  good Q2 earnings. The AI related semiconductor stocks continued sharp sell-offs despite their solid results. In other words, investors did not seem to care about good earnings, rather it was a classic “sell-the-news” reactions.  The Nasdaq was the worst performer, hit hardest by the sell-off in mega-cap tech and semiconductor stocks. Most of the chip names are in bear market down more than 20-30%. The “Magnificent Seven” collectively lost hundreds of billions in market value amid investor concerns over elevated AI capital spending and so valuations concern.  Strong fundamental results from AI-related companies were met with skepticism rather than celebration. Investors appeared more focused on the sustainability of AI spending, the impact of elevated oil prices on inflation and rates, and the broader geopolitical backdrop than on pure earnings beats.  The  ongo...

Shesa's Weekend Stock Market Updates - 8|2|26

Welcome to my Weekend's update Last week was a roller coaster ride for the technology investors. Nasdaq experienced a sharp drop after the FOMC meeting on Wednesday. It almost reached to the correction territory, down -9.85%  from its all-time high. The AI and semiconductor related stocks were decimated but finally saw some light at the end of the tunnel as market bounced back on Thursday and Friday due to strong earnings from Microsoft and Amazon. The market jitter was aggravated after the press conference of Fed chair Kevin Warsh. The investors got confused about FED's action and got panicked. Having said that, stocks finished higher for the week capping a volatile July with a rebound driven by strong Big Tech earnings that eased some AI-spending concerns. For the full month of July, the Dow eked out a small gain 0.3%, while the S&P 500 was down -0.1%  and the Nasdaq fell sharply -3.2% .  Economic report last week   The FOMC kept the interest ra...
